"Painting the past vs. painting the future"


Les Barker is often asked if there is a difference between creating traditional architectural illustrations (depicting what will be or what is) and creating interpretive historical illustrations (depicting what was). Answering with a definite "YES", Les describes how these illustrations are much more demanding, time consuming and harder/more picky. To start with, nearly every item shown in a piece is based on archaeological fact and research, typically years and/or decades of it...

The Ken Roberts Committee and AIA Dallas would like to once again thank all of you who entered in this years KRob delineation competition. This year’s competition has continued to build on previous years’ successes, with a record 405 entries being received from over two dozen countries. ASAI TOKYO CONFERENCE 2011


to be held in conjunction with the

International Union of Architects (UIA) Conference


24th Sept - 2nd October 2011


With 10,000 people expected to attend the 2011 UIA Conference. ASAI and JARA member Masaaki Yamada has successfully negotiated for AAAI to be included as part of the largest international exhibition of architectural illustration featuring AIP26 (ASAI) and exhibitions from Japan (JARA), Korea (KAPA) and China. A week long program will allow all delegates to jointly access both programs. The retreat will be in Kyoto and the conference program with include opportunities to visit significant cultural and historical landmarks.
